Seeing its most famous monuments thanks to the help of a local authorized guide is an unmissable experience. After an introduction to the city, you will visit Palazzo Ducale, a symbol of political power for the City of Venice and then for the Serenissima Republic. Climbing the Golden Stairs you will reach its institutional rooms and through the renowned Bridge of Sighs you reach the prisons. Then you pass to the Basilica of St. Mark which in the last two centuries has become the Cathedral of Venice, an example of the historical connection with Byzantium and its influence. What makes this tour unique? Visit lesser-known islands and consequently, less tourists, immersed in the silence of the lagoon: an evocative experience, a break from the hectic pace or stressful moments of everyday life. The islands we visit are some fragments of the Serenissima, which had precise functions: monastic retreat, pilgrimage site, a place of isolation, agricultural activity. Convents, monasteries and cloisters are the protagonists of this particular excursion. Sometimes they are placed in solitary places of the lagoon, amidst luxuriant nature, reachable by sailing along sparsely travelled canals.. The first island we visit will be San Lazzaro degli Armeni with the monastery of the Order of the Mekhitarist Fathers, the church houses a library of about 1,700,000 volumes, including 4,500 manuscripts. Not far from San Lazzaro, we will visit the island of San Servolo, former convent, former psychiatric hospital, since 2006 the seat of the Museum of Madness. The island is today one of the main congress centres in the city of Venice. The lunch break will be spent on another island, little known and rarely visited by the usual tourism: the island of Sant'Erasmo, considered "the vegetable garden of Venice". After the lunch break, we will visit the island of St. Francis of the Desert, where a Franciscan friar will accompany us to the monastery and we can breathe the spirituality of this simple place, but full of history. THE TOUR INCLUDES: full day excursion private boat rental entrances to the islands lunch Ask for information!
